Reading: Each full week of school we read a selection from our book. While reading we work on strategies for comprehension and vocabulary. Every Thursday students show their knowledge of the weekly vocabulary. On Friday we take our comprehension test. We will also begin reading chapter books in our reading circles very soon!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! It was a great way to start the month. We have enjoyed Dr. Seuss and his stories for years, but this time we looked past the rhyming and searched for meaning. We are reading and writing about The Sneetches, Yertle the Turtle, and the Cat in the Hat. It's been fun trying to figure out the lessons in the stories. Did you know that Yertle could not be King turtle without the support of all the other turtles? He should have treated them better!

Have you read THE BFG? We think you should! For the last month we have enjoyed this novel and all its silly surprises. Our ability to "make movies" in our head has improved and we can visualize events as they unfold.
We are working on adding more detail to our writing as we learn more about adjectives. Our latest project was writing about love.
Language: Our Grammar practice has focused on sentence structure. We are learning the different types of sentences as well as subjects and predicates. Students are encouraged to incorporate this knowledge in their independent writings and make sure that every sentence has SWAG!
